When someone said they were praying for me

I have been through lonely seasons in my career. The people who told me they were praying for me had no job or money to offer. What they gave me mattered anyway.

When someone said they were praying for me

I have had real struggles in my career, and most of those times were lonely and hard. There were plenty of days I needed someone to reach out and say they cared.

A few times, someone did. They told me they were praying for me. They did not have a job to offer me or money to give me. They had spiritual love and support, and they shared it.

It meant more than I expected. It gave me some strength, the sense that I was not on my own, and enough to keep going and keep trying.

Johann Hari, Lost Connections, on what loneliness is

When I think about who a prayer list is for, I think about those seasons as much as the emergencies. The long stretches when someone is struggling and nobody asks are the ones a community misses most easily.
